1. The character’s name, Apple, is the name of my hairdresser. The character’s surname, Apostolopoulou, is my best friend’s surname.

2. The dog’s name in Apple and Rain is Derry. I named him after the city where my dad lives in Northern Ireland.

3. Although the location has been invented, I used Southend as a sort of sketch for my fictional town. This meant several visits to the seaside and lots of fish and chips.

4. After reading my book, a fan emailed to ask me if I’d seen Lars and the Real Girl. I hadn’t, so I watched it.

Ten Random Things about Teeth

1. My original idea for a vampire story involved two Vampires getting caught in Starbucks after the sun came up. The idea was that they had to drink coffee all through the day so the manager would let them stay, resulting in a ridiculous caffeine high. I might still use that for book two.

2. Originally Teeth was going to be written entirely from Thomas’s point of view. I quickly changed that when I realised I wanted a more experienced point of view for some of the chapters.

3. The original title was ‘Fangs’. I didn’t like the S in the plural so I changed it to Teeth.… Read more >>>

1. The spark which triggered the idea for the book came from a local newspaper report about police investigating a pony which had been ritually slaughtered on Dartmoor. It later turned out the pony had died of natural causes, but I wasn’t about to let the truth get in the way of a good story.

2. A tell tale is not only somebody who sneaks on some one else, it is also a piece of thread on the sail of a boat. The tell tale guides the sailor in setting the sail, thus achieving the best performance. The double meaning is, of course, intentional.… Read more >>>

1. The mirror maze is based on a real place, in Prague. On Petrin Hill there is a mirror maze you can go and visit, and the idea came from there, because it was so disconcerting to be able to see myself everywhere I looked.

2. Merek’s grandfather, King Kyras, is named after a friend’s cat, Kyra, who was chewing on my jumper and generally being a nuisance when I wrote that scene. It was my petty revenge.

3. The first draft was written in just two weeks. I was writing a chapter or two a day, sending them to my friend, and then carrying on the next day.… Read more >>>

My name is Robyn Elizabeth Knollys-Green.

I am sixteen years old.

I am the daughter of Stephen Knollys-Green, the Prime Minister.

I am still alive.

I repeat the words over and over in my head, until I feel calmer. Then I look about me. The room is small, with white walls and a white tiled floor.

A bare bulb burns above me.

Nailbiting tension, poignant family relationships and a touching, complex romance make this the must-have teen read for 2015.

Robyn Knollys-Green is an A-list celebrity, famous for being the daughter of one of the world’s most powerful men. But not even the paparazzi can find her now.… Read more >>>

1. My original working title was Spellbinder. But that was already overused, so I changed to Contiguity. The grown-ups didn’t know what that meant, so we settled on Gifted.

2. The reason my name doesn’t appear on the front cover is that Sean Freeman’s artwork was so good, I didn’t want to spoil it.

3. Frank’s sidekick Marvo’s full name is Magdalena Marvell. In the first draft, her surname was McTeer, and she was about twenty years older.

4. Jacques Auguste Simon Collin de Plancy’s Dictionnaire infernal, to which Frank refers in a moment of crisis, is a real book, celebrated for its bizarre illustrations of demons.… Read more >>>
