This book is so bizarre! It thrilled, chilled, unsettled and trailed me along on such a super intense and heightened journey that I literally could not put it down!
The storyline is a strange one…main character Jodi’s parents are dead – slaughtered in their own home. Jodi has had her share of problems after the event but things seemed to have calmed…until the nightmares start again….
The nightmares and strange happenings seem to have started after she stumbles upon her father’s old research projects in the attic. Intrigued by his sound waves research she makes it her mission to find out more. She is lead into the darkest and most scariest of places…all the while something only she can hear follows – she knows it’s coming…it’s only a matter of time…
Paul Southern is a great writer. I lived and breathed his vivid and super tense descriptors. Everything played out so terrifyingly beautifully right in front of my eyes and I just couldn’t get enough. I loved the setting and how on edge I was at never quite knowing what was going to happen around each shadowed corner.
Having said that, the reason for the 3.5* rating? I was so darn confused in some places and as for the ending? What the hell happened? Having talked it over with a fellow reader and seeing what she took from it really helped though. So, in a way it’s good because it plays on your mind and is a fantastic talking point.
Killing Sound is a memorable thrill ride that I’ll be thinking about for a long time to come! I love that it’s a little different from everything else out there. I’ll be keeping an eye out for more work from Paul Southern in the future.
