When the doors of the lift crank open, the only thing Thomas can remember is his first name. But he’s not alone. He’s surrounded by boys who welcome him to the Glade, an encampment at the centre of a bizarre maze.
Like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they came to be there, or what’s happening to the world outside. All they know is that every morning when the walls slide back, they will risk everything to find out.

Why oh why did I not read this sooner?! I adored this kick-ass first instalment in what I expect will be a truly memorable series! Action, adventure and intrigue play the most parts of this story and that mix proves to be un-put-downable!
James Dashner weaves a complicated world were nothing is ever quite as it seems. Everything is a learning game for the characters as well as the reader. There was so much to love about this gloriously imagined world and each little thing I discovered had me surprised and wanting more. I craved and delighted in the vivid descriptors…seeing a world through a characters eyes is the very best way to explore and James easily achieves that.
Main character Thomas is a fantastically fearless and likeable character. He is thrown into a place called The Glade with no memories and is left to find everything out for himself. All the other lads were in the same boat…wherever they came from and whatever they’re doing there is a big mystery. They have to survive any way they can, including sending runners out of the save confines of The Glade and into the maze itself…
The maze is a terrifying place to be, with its changing walls and monstrously terrifying Grievers *shudders* that lurk around each and every corner. But the lads need to try to figure out a way to escape so they must keep trying…
The characters were a real interesting mix and I enjoyed them all for their differences. They had this strange language that annoyed me a tad at the start but I soon got used to it and ended up enjoying their mannerisms.
Gosh that ending! Where is the second book already!?
The Maze Runner is sci-fi at it’s very best. It’s mysterious, emotion filled, action packed and just all-round edge-of-your-seat awesome! There is just so much to love that I can’t put it all into words! I know I’ll be going to see it on the big screen…I can hardly contain my excitement…eeekkkk!!!
