Return of the Wolf by Dianna Hardy

Return of theSummary from Goodreads

The fourth book in the dark paranormal fantasy series, Eye Of The Storm.

The full moon has been and gone, beginning a new phase of greater surety for the wolves of Surrey and the mated four who lead them. Ryan’s old pack from Wiltshire – a force to be reckoned with – have ensured their immediate safety from The Trident … but what will they demand in return for their protection?

As Lydia and Lawrence heal old wounds, finding solace in each other, Ryan battles with his own past. He’d do anything to keep the pack he loves safe, but ‘anything’ might have consequences he never imagined.

Meanwhile, Selena’s sole focus is in keeping herself intact as Gabriel relishes in breaking her. What will she have to become in order to survive?

And Sarah has some tough choices to make, all of which will test her beliefs and challenge her boundaries of what makes good, and what makes evil.

Written in British English. Contains scenes of explicit sex and violence that some readers may find disturbing.

My Review

I’ve tried and failed to write a review for this book a few times now. I have no words that could even come close to doing it justice! Dianna Hardy is a really rare talent, who can make you feel things you’d never think possible. The storyline is paranormal but the characters have these real issues that make you really feel so much. My heart broke a few times throughout and it was a tough read but it was so worth the gut wrenching emotion because now I know how the characters tick and what dark path lead them to where they are now.

The past comes hurtling back into Ryan’s life and he is left with no other choise but to face up to his hidden secrets and learn to trust and confide in his mates. Delving into Ryan’s past wasn’t an easy ride, it made me not only sad but angry – very angry. I love how Dianna can make you feel so many different things from page to page. I don’t want to give too much away but it’s a rocky journey for not only Ryan but also his mates.

The sideline stories are getting ever so interesting. Gabriel is darkly intriguing and Selena is growing on me. Also we have Sarah, her situation is very interesting and I can’t wait to see what part she will play in the overall story – I bet it will be huge!

Ryan was never my favourite wolf (I’m a Lawrence girl), but he now holds a firm place in my heart. I cheered him on as he fought his demons, looked as his past mistakes and also made realisations that he wasn’t to blame. Learning to accept, forgive and also move on with a life that he has so beautifully built was a thing of beauty – even is the road was a bumpy one.

Dianna is a surprising writer who never sticks to a box or a straight line, she wanders off on her own direction trailing the reader on an exceptional ride – reading things that are not only shocking at times but also memorable and always beautiful. I love the darker side to this story because Dianna really takes you there, she lets you inside her characters minds and tells you the raw but beautifully honest way it actually happened. As I’ve said before she’s an unapologetic writer and for that I’m ever so grateful.

I just want to mention Nikolai, who not only creeped me out but intrigued me a whole lot. I wanted to know where he got his twisted notions and what made him the disgusting person he turned out to be.

Return of the Wolf is a real gem of a journey. I’m in love with these alphas and think they are developing ever so beautifully as the books go by. This review is a rambling mess but really I just couldn’t have said anything to really tell you how much the story moved me. I just can’t wait for the next book – bring it on!!

5/5 Stars
