Caine Carraway wants nothing to do with Alexa’s efforts at redemption, but it’s not so easy to push her away. Determined to make her hate him, he brings her to the edge of her patience and waits for her to walk away. But his actions only draw them together and, despite the odds, they begin an intense and all-consuming affair.
Only Caine knows he can never be the white knight that Alexa has always longed for, and when they’re on the precipice of danger, he finds he’ll do anything to protect either one of them from being hurt again . . .

Hero is a gorgeous read that tugged on my heartstrings and kept me turning those pages. I loved that it was a slick and very sexy read but it also had that touch of class that a lot of stories these days seem to lack!
Main character Alexa is a fierce woman, headstrong and just genuinely down-to-earth. She is haunted by her father’s past mistakes that wrecked so many lives. Meeting one of the men hit badly by her dad’s past makes her want to step in and not only help him but make him see that she isn’t anything like her father.
The man himself Caine Carraway is one intense, wealthy and respected business man that I liked a whole lot (even though I wanted to shake him at times). He tries to hold Alexa at a distance and treats her coldly and tries his best to make her hate him. But as they say opposites attract and when Alexa reaches the end of her patience sparks start to fly.
I really enjoyed Caine and Alexa’s chemistry, it was electric and vibrated right off the page. The pair had their highs and lows and everything was a huge struggle to overcome – more so when things take a more sinister turn…
I just have to briefly mention the lovely little old lady, Effie (apologies if the spelling is wrong), she was a tough nut that was equally warm and wise. She added a little something extra to the overall story and I’d just like her to be in my corner.
The ending was so so good!
I think hero was a highly engaging read that had a lot of depth, when the outer layers of the story were peeled away there was a lot more to discover. Samantha Young is definitely an author to watch her writing is just delicious!
