Summary from Goodreads
‘They think I hurt someone.
But I didn’t. You hear?
Coz people are gonna be telling you
all kinds of lies.
I need you to know the truth.’
From one-time winner and two-time Carnegie Medal shortlisted author Sarah Crossan, this poignant, stirring, huge-hearted novel asks big questions. What value do you place on life? What can you forgive? And just how do you say goodbye?

*sigh* This book was both heartbreaking and hopeful. It read like an absolute dream and not only squeezed on my little heart but filled my eyes up more than once.
Sarah Crossan has this magical ability to tell stories in verse. The lines are snappy and to the point but they also speak volumes. The words may be fewer but I think that’s what makes them punchy, edgy and emotionally charged.
I truly lost myself within the pages of this story. Our main character, Joe, is a regular down-to-earth guy with the heart of a lion. The storyline follows him rushing to his brother’s side when he is given his execution date. Joe is faced with tough decisions and long unanswered questions. I also especially enjoyed that little spark of romance…it was edgy and uncertain – but I really liked that.
The story itself was beautifully told and flowed like a dream that took me along for such a journey. I genuinely do believe I will always pick up a Crossan book – they really are stand-out special!!
A big 5* read
