Perfectly Norman by Tom Percival – Review!

Summary:

Norman had always been perfectly normal. That was until the day he grew a pair of wings!

Norman is very surprised to have wings suddenly – and he has the most fun ever trying them out high in the sky. But then he has to go in for dinner. What will his parents think? What will everyone else think? Norman feels the safest plan is to cover his wings with a big coat.

But hiding the thing that makes you different proves tricky and upsetting. Can Norman ever truly be himself?

A poignant yet uplifting story about individuality, with stunning artwork in a striking minimal palette from the author/illustrator of Herman’s Letter. Fans of Oliver Jeffers and Benj Davies will love it.

Quickie Review

Oh wow! This beautiful picture book is full of wonder! We throughly enjoyed every inch of this book and it is now sitting firmly on our favourites shelf!

The storyline follows Norman and the predicament he faces when he grows a wonderful pair of wings! He must try to be as normal as possible…so he needs to hide those wings…with a large coat. Norman is so unhappy, wrapped up in the coat and being unable to be himself.

Norman remembers fondly the time he used his wonderful wings to fly high in the sky and this makes him more upset…what what can he do? He will stand out like a sore thumb with a pair of wings? Won’t he?

This story is uplifting and gives those warm and fuzzy vibes that children and adults crave. Being yourself is the best and most wonderful thing is a child can do. It is okay to be different and to stand out from the crowd. Why blend in when you were born to shine?

The illustrations are simplistic and full of charm. What we loved the most were how much the bright yellow coat stood out among the grey back round. We could happily read over this book again and again! A stunning and truly memorable picture book! We loved it?

5/5 Stars!
